Abstract
Efektywność ekonomiczna należy do podstawowych kategorii ekonomicznych występujących w teorii mikroekonomii.

Allocative efficiency is the most commonly encountered concept of economic efficiency in economic literature. Yet, it refers to the allocation of resources among enterprises without reference to the processes that occur within these enterprises. In this article, the author presents a concept for considering efficiency from the perspective of the individual enterprise, as developed by the American economist Harvey Leibenstein. The ^-efficiency theory is an attempt to explain both the interactions that occur within the firm as well as its interactions with its externa1 environment. After providing a brief review of the key elements of the ^-efficiency theory - which calls into question the very foundations of neoclassical theory - the author presents the views of three of H. Leibenstein's most important adversaries, namely D. Schwartzman, G. J. Stigler and L. De Alessi. The idea of X-efficiency, while not strong enough to become an alternative to neoclassical economic theory, is undoubtedly a valuable example of the micro-micro theory, linking economic and psychological aspects.
