- Propozycje Komisji UE w związku z rozszerzeniem Unii o kraje Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej przedstawione w pakiecie dokumentów Agenda 2000 są krytykowane jako nazbyt optymistyczne co do konsekwencji budżetowych zwłaszcza w dziedzinie polityki regionalnej. W artykule przedstawiono aktualny stan rozwoju regionów Unii oraz wpływ Funduszu Spójności oraz Funduszy Strukturalnych na regiony korzystające obecnie z ich finansowej pomocy. Następnie zbadano czy jest możliwe rozszerzenie polityki regionalnej Unii Europejskiej na 5 nowych krajów członkowskich bez znaczącej reformy obecnego systemu.
Following publication of Agenda 2000 the EU Commission has been criticised as overly optimistic on the budgetary consequences of the envisaged accession of a number of Central and East European Countries. This article briefly reviws the evolution of regional disparities withion the EU and the impacts of the Structural and Cohesion Funds on the present recipient regions. It then investigates whether it is financially feasible to extend EU regional policy to the five likely new CEEC member states without a major reform of the present system. - Accessibility
