Abstract
W artykule opisano rozwój energetyki jądrowej na świecie w latach 1970-1995. Przedstawiono dylematy i problemy związane z akceptacją społeczną energetyki jądrowej oraz prognozy jej rozwoju do 2010 roku.

The dynamic growth of nuclear power engineering as observed in 1960 was greatly slowed down in the subsequent two decades, especially in Western countries. There are many reasons for such a situation, yet the following should be stressed: reduced economic competitiveness of nuclear power, increased requirements concerning safety and a vastly prolonged time to build reactors. A very important reason was an increasing social resistance against growth of nuclear power engineering after the Chernobyl failure. The European Union countries forecast a drop of the nuclear power share after 2005 and, as experts state, in 2010 it will reach the level of 1990. The further growth of nuclear power engineering up to 2015 will depend on strategic programmes adopted in individual countries.(short original abstract)
