- Celem pracy była próba wyjaśnienia fenomenu matematyzacji ekonomii poprzez wskazanie na jego przyczyny w postaci historycznych źródeł i ewolucji tego procesu. W konsekwencji stan obecny ujawnił się jako naturalny rezultat długiego procesu historycznego. Z tej też perspektywy krytycznej analizie i ocenie poddane zostały kontrowersje wokół stopnia matematyzacji ekonomii, jej zalet i wad.
Thus, the aim of this article is to explain the mathematisation of economics by highlighting its causes in the form of its historical roots and evolution. The analysis in the article distinguishes three ways in which economic problems have been mathematised: the mathematisation of cognitive results, methodological mathematisation, and structural mathematisation. Moreover, the author describes the genesis of the axiomatic approach to economics, paying particular attention to the impact of the philosophy of the Vienna Circle on the discipline. The author discusses the controversies surrounding the mathematisation of economics in the light of the general structure of scientific theory, and ends his article with the conclusion that the axiomatic methods is an entirely legitimate research tool in the field of economics.
