- Unia Europejska promuje rolnictwo ekologiczne oparte na pozytywnych skutkach na środowisko. Rolnicy ekologiczni mogą zwiększać efektywność i podnosić wydajność, jednocześnie nie zagrażać zdrowiu i szeroko rozumianej równowadze. Ten typ rolnictwa rozwija się intensywnie w krajach Unii Europejskiej od lat dziewięćdziesiątych ubiegłego wieku, co wynika z powstania regulacji prawnych z zakresu rolnictwa ekologicznego oraz instrumentów wspierających rozwój prośrodowiskowych sposobów produkcji rolniczej. W 1992 r. wprowadzono regulacje (Reg EC. 2078/92) dotyczące rolnych metod produkcji zgodnych z wymogami ochrony środowiska i utrzymania krajobrazu wsi.
According to the Codex Alimentarius, organic farming involves holistic production management systems (for crops and livestock) emphasising the use of management practices in preference to the use of off-farm inputs. This is accomplished by using, where possible, cultural, biological and mechanical methods in preference to synthetic materials. Since the beginning of the 1990s, organic farming has rapidly developed in almost all European countries. In most countries of Europe and particularly the European Union organic farming is supported with legislation and direct payments. Regulation (EEC) No 2078/922 provided further opportunities for financial support for organic farming, because of its specific features, is eligible. (original abstract) - Accessibility
