Abstract

The paper analyzes inequalities in incomes and expenses in Polish households in 1998-2004. The analysis is based on figures related to household budgets, annually calculated by the Central Statistical Office. The paper presents different social and economic dimensions of the structure of income inequalities. The Theil index, characterized by additive decomposition, is applied to describe general social inequalities. This measuring tool makes it possible to determine the share of the particular household subgroups in general inequalities. The results of the research indicate the widening of gaps between households in general and within the specific subgroups.(original abstract)
