Abstract
Celem tego artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie zalet i wad nowoczesnych produktów finansowo-ubezpieczeniowych jako narzędzi zarządzania ryzykiem pogodowym. W pierwszej części artykułu zdefiniowane zostaną pojęcia pogody, klimatu i ryzyka pogodowego. Część druga poświęcona będzie prezentacji produktów indeksowych na tle klasycznych ubezpieczeń. W ostatniej części autor skupi się na podstawowych rodzajach produktów indeksowych oferowanych przez rynki ubezpieczeniowe i instrumentów pochodnych. (fragment tekstu)

The aim of this article is to signal advantages and disadvantages of modern insurance and financial products as vehicles of weather risk management. In the first part a definition of weather, climate and weather risk is made. In this part weather risk is also divided into three categories: catastrophic risk, non-catastrophic risk and everyday weather risk. The second part is devoted to presentation of index products in comparison to traditional insurance, and to description of possibilities of utilization of these products in risk management. Finally, the author focuses on basic types of index products offered by insurance and derivatives markets: weather index insurance and weather derivatives. (original abstract)
