Abstract
In the first part of the article two basic criteria for the selection of a technique of production: the criterion of the maximisation of production and the maximisation of investitive surplus were discussed. It was indicated that, in certain assumptions, the criterion of the maximisation of production is superior in relation to the rate of turnover and to the social terminal productivity. The second part of the article is devoted to an estimate of both alternative solutions. The author arrives at the conclusion that both possess determined defects and qualities resulting from the temporal horizon taken into consideration for each of them. Finally, in the last part of the article the author discusses the possibility of an entire or partial interlinking of both alternative solutions by desisting from the assumption of the stability of real wages adopted by the adherents of techniques requiring a great amount of capital. The author is of opinion that the so-called "intermediary techniques" ought to be chosen in the sense of their being a combination of techniques economising capital on the one hand and of techniques absorbing capital in the other.
