Abstract

Lack of insight into proper using terms private equity and venture capital is often noticed in many publications and statements. What's more such a situation often appears in statements of persons professionally close to private equity and venture capital industry, who particularly should be interested in precise expressing one's thoughts. Misunderstandings mentioned above seem to have their origins in history of finance. It implies a wide variety of understanding and using discussed terms worldwide. This paper is an attempt to define private equity and venture capital and put opinions con- cerning this area in order. (original abstract)
