- Przedstawiono wielkość i przyczyny występowania deficytu w handli zagranicznym Polski oraz: handel zagraniczny na tle podstawowych wskaźników gospodarki polskiej w latach 19995-98; powszechny charakter kryzysu w handlu zagranicznym w krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej; strukturę wytwarzania i podziału PKB w Polsce na tle rozwiniętych gospodarek rynkowych.
The article presents problems and challenges facing the Polish economy, as may be seen from the growing deficit in the balance of foreign trade and the current balance of payments. The author points to the sources of the deficit of the balance of trade, which are a rapid growth of imports caused primarily by the existing technology gap, on the one hand, and the sluggish exports owing to their traditional composition, on the other hand. The process of restructuration of industry is going on, but at an insufficient rate because of resistances on the part of significant social groups not willing to bear the necessary sacrifices. As a result, there is no comprehensive program of realization of the second part of the economic reform which would enable Polish firms to compete successfully in the unified European market. Under these circumstances, the measures taken by the Polish National Bank to reduce the rate of increase in imports (higher interest rates and obligatory reserves) have only short-term positive influence on the economy. The trade deficit has become a permanent feature, which points to a rather passive and sluggish adjustment of Poland to the acquis communataire. (original abstract) - Accessibility
