- W artykule przedstawiono miejsce inżynierii rolniczej w Stanach Zjednoczonych, jako dyscypliny naukowej i kierunku kształcenia, oraz jej udziału w transferze innowacji do sektora rolno-spożywczego. Malejąca liczba studentów i środków finansowych na badania rolnicze w USA wymusza przekształcenia w inżynierii rolniczej. Są one ukierunkowane głównie na poszerzenie obszaru zainteresowań i stałą aktualizację tematyki badawczej w oparciu o potrzeby praktyki. Obszar zainteresowań IR w USA wyraźnie przesuwa się bardziej w stronę zagadnień biologicznych niż technicznych, czyli inżynierii biosystemów. Wzorem dla koniecznej reorientacji w polskiej inżynierii rolniczej powinien być amerykański system RET (research, extension, teaching). System jest źródłem inspiracji dla nauki i skutecznym narzędziem transferu innowacji do praktyki. Ułatwia również proces aktualizacji wiedzy wykładowców i sprzyja doskonaleniu edukacji akademickiej. The paper presents the position of agricultural engineering in the United States as a scientific discipline, a field of academic education and its participation in innovation transfer to agri-food sector. The decreasing number of students and financial resources for agricultural research in the United States enforces transformation in agricultural engineering. Such changes are oriented mainly on extending the area of interest and permanent updating of research topics based on the requirements of farmers and manufactures of agricultural machines. The area of expertise of agricultural engineering in the U.S. is changing towards rather biological than technical issues, that is engineering of biosystems. That should be also our guiding direction of future transformations. The American system RET (research, extension, teaching) should be the model for the inevitable transformation of the Polish agricultural engineering. The system is a source of inspiration for science and effective tool for the transfer of innovation into agri-food sector. It also facilitates the process updating teachers'knowledge and promotes improvement of academic education. (original abstract) - Full text
