- This conference follows the first International Days of Bioethics of Strasbourg on dying and death rites where the question of death throughout medical, religious and social rites was thoroughly developed. Prenatal death and postnatal death which were not spoken of was the main topic of these 3rd International Days of Bioethics organised by European Centre of Ethics (Prof. Marie- Jo Thiel) in collaboration with the University of Lausanne. How to handle severe foetal pathology? Can we replace medical abortion at the end of pregnancy by infanticide (« ending the life of a newborn »)? Is actively giving death and letting die the same thing from the ethical point of view? Difficult questions we cannot avoid for our humanity is at stake.(original abstract)
