Abstract
Hester Street is a great story, presenting how two various characters adapt to a new enviroment, that is New York. Two main characters, Jake and Getl, are a Jewish marriage. Jake moved to NY in order to earn money for living. He found a well paid job and an apartment. He also met many women, despite the fact he was married. 3 years later, Getl with her son, Joey, moved to New York. The moment of meeting Jake and Gitl at Ellis Island is the beginning of their end.... Jake, after 3 years spent in America is a different person.(fragment of text)
