Abstract

Artykuł podkreśla znaczenie zmian kursów walutowych dla konkurencyjności cenowej, która staje się ważniejsza w warunkach globalnej recesji. Jest to związane ze spadkiem popytu, który jest spowodowany wzrostem bezrobocia. Dlatego więcej osób poszukuje relatywnie tanich towarów. Słabsza waluta jest pomocna dla eksporterów, ponieważ ich produkty są zwykle tańsze niż towary wyprodukowane w krajach o relatywnie silniejszych walutach. Zmiany kursów walutowych mają duży wpływ na saldo bilansu handlu zagranicznego i bilansu obrotów bieżących poszczególnych krajów. Autor podkreśla, że większość krajów preferuje posiadanie relatywnie słabych walut podczas recesji. Jednak szybka dewaluacja waluty także nie jest korzystna, z powodu spadku jej znaczenia w skali globalnej.(abstrakt oryginalny)

The paper underlines importance of exchange rates on the price competitiveness, which is more important in the global recession terms. It is connected with a drop of demand, which is caused by a growth of unemployment. Therefore, more people look for relatively cheap commodities. Weaker currency is helpful for exporters because their products are usually cheaper than goods made in countries of stronger currency. Exchange rates have a big influence on balance on foreign trade and on balance on the current accounts of countries. The author stresses that most countries prefer to have relatively weak currencies during the recession. However, the rapid devaluation of a currency is also not profitable because of a drop of importance of such a currency in the global scale.(original abstract)
