Abstract
This paper suggests a knowledge-based approach to improve existing data quality and to create new knowledge-oriented databases for all "knowledge processors" involved. This approach is a result of more then fifteen years of experience in solving complex problem, developing decision support systems for maintenance and prediction and building a global knowledge flow. This method has been applied in international enterprises as well as in SMEs. This approach is generic and can be applied to industrial, insurance and health domains as well. This paper also discusses the integration of contextual knowledge, knowledge transfer and suggests using the CBR techniques to "clean" existing data before using knowledge discovery tools.
