Abstract

The paper presents a brief overview of the issue of price transmission on the agricultural and food markets with main focus on the methodological aspects of the phenomenon of price transmission on these markets. The observed increasing price spreads between agricultural and food products in the process of price transmission in the agribusiness sector are pointed out. The types of price transmission asymmetry are defined as well as some of the methods used for its analysis are briefly discussed. In conclusion a hypothesis is formulated that due to the development of monopolistic competition and government intervention in the agribusiness sector, the extent to which prices of agricultural products will translate into prices of foods will be decreasing, and price transmission asymmetry in the marketing chain linking agricultural and food markets will continue to grow.
