- Abstract
- wieku - osoby starsze wydają wszystko na bieżące potrzeby, podczas gdy osobom poniżej 60-tego roku życia udaje się trochę zaoszczędzić;
- wykształcenia i dochodów - im wyższe wykształcenie i dochód, tym wyższa skłonność do oszczędzania;
- przynależności do określonej klasy społecznej.
The article analyses data concerning household savings, the impact of investment funds on household savings and possibility to use investment funds in voluntary pension plans. The majority of Poles is in favor of saving money but more than a half spends everything on current needs and only 7% regularly puts some money aside. Social survey conducted in 2009, reveals that only 32% of all families have savings. The crisis on financial markets caused much decrease in the value of owned shares, obligations and investment funds in Poland. Comparing data from 2007 and from June 2010 we can notice a decrease of 70 billion Polish zlotys (-40%) pertaining to natural persons' savings in investment funds. At that time the value of safe-deposits increased to 404 billion Polish zlotys (+68%). The structure of savings underwent some changes and diversification. Some economists recognize also Open Pension Funds assets as being a part of financial savings. In the second half of 2010 they reached 23% contribution in savings. In the time of slump that occurred in 2008-2009, many people transferred their savings from high risk investment funds to safe deposits. In 2007 the value of investment funds in comparison to the value of deposits accounted for 48,7% decreased to 17,3% in June 2009. Savings in Employment Pension Programs (PPE) and Individual Pension Accounts (IKE) did not gain much popularity. Assets gathered in Employment Pension Programs (PPE) accounted for 4,3 billion Polish zlotys and in Individual Pension Accounts (IKE) only for 2,3 billion. Total number of participants saving their money in Employment Pension Programs (PPE) is 333 000 (78% members are active) while Individual Pension Accounts (IKE) are owned by 796 000. Customers investing on the capital market very often lose their money in the time of slump or gain lower profit due to delayed entrance into the market during investment boom. Such a game is practically impossible for the majority of clients and brings much worst results. Author of the article refers to investment fund known as PFE Nowy Świat, which consequently, using balanced investment strategy, during 10 years of its activity obtained 128,5% increase (which is 7,8% per year). Assets gathered in Polish investment funds are still rather small in comparison to other better-developed countries. Improvement of material situation of the society, better financial education and development of pension plans is a key factor for a further development of investment funds.
