- Autor przedstawia podstawowe cele do jakich dążą banki centralne. Są to: utrzymanie wewnętrznej i zewnętrznej wartości waluty krajowej, zapewnienie zdrowego i stabilnego systemu finansowego oraz wspieranie efektywności i konkurencyjności narodowego systemu finansowego poddanego konkurencji zagranicznej. Stabilność cen wydaje się być kluczowym celem banków centralnych, która prowadzi do rozwoju gospodarczego państwa.
This paper presents the main goals (as well as less important ones) of the contemporary central bank. First of all, stabilizing of the internal and external value of the currency is discussed. The author gives some evidence how this goal may be understood in several countries. In addition, supporting the effectiveness of the financial system may be considered as a central bank's goal. Some others, like reducing unemployment, fixing exchange rate, financing budget deficits, are less popular, at least officially. The author concludes that the low inflation should be main goal of the central bank for many reasons; mainly because this institution is responsible for the monetary policy, and inflation seems to be a monetary phenomenom.
