- W artykule zaprezentowano rozwój handlu wysyłkowego w Polsce. Na stopień popularności tej formy sprzedaży duży wpływ ma poziom zamożności społeczeństwa. Największy rozwój nastąpił w latach dziewięćdziesiątych głównie dzięki spółkom z udziałem kapitału zagranicznego (Otto International Poland, Bon Prix, 3 Suisses, Quelle Polska) oraz firmom, które łączą tę formę zbytu ze sprzedażą w punktach stacjonarnych (Office Depot; Ikea Polska). Ze sprzedaży wysyłkowej korzystają głównie osoby pracujące zawodowo. Autor przedstawił również rozwój handlu wysyłkowego według udziału w obrotach handlu detalicznego w Niemczech.
The paper presents mail order trade which is one of the forms of non - shop retail trade. Various forms of getting in touch with prospective customers were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the possibility of using Internet in contacting people interested in such offers and to the perspectives of electronic trade development. In order to verify the degree of interest shown by the Poles in purchasing products in the system of mail order trade, the author presented results of surveys carried out in November and December 1998, in several vaivodship towns (administrative regions existing up till the end of 1998) of Western Poland. The results of this research let us state to what extent the systems applied in developed countries are approved of and meet with interest of the Polish society in the period of economic transformation.
