World Trade Organization (WTO) - Abstract
- Rozpatrywanie związków między globalizacją a WTO według autora jest możliwe jedynie jako staranna obserwacja działalności tej organizacji po porażce jaką odniosła podczas Konferencji w Seattle. Konferencja ta stała się symbolem protestu przeciwników globalizacji oraz punktem odniesienia dla poważniejszej debaty nad jej istotą i konsekwencjami.
The breakdown of the Third Ministerial WTO Conference has been attributed not only to the sharpness of the conflict between the member countries, but also to the weaknesses and limitations of the institution itself, leading to increasing calls to reform the WTO. The Seattle conference become a turning point for the WTO in its relatively short history. Where do we go after Seattle? The author of this article discusses the tasks facing the WTO under conditions whereby both the attitudes and behaviours of member countries in the forum of the organisation are changing profoundly, which in turn corresponds to an important revaluation of macroeconomic doctrines and internal economic policies.
