- Abstract
The concept of intentionality is the main concept of every philosophy that is concerned with the conscious, and primarly it is the central problem of phenomenology. The philosopher who was the first to systematize intentionality was F. Brentano. The question was later taken up by E. Husserl. At present intentionality is investigated by philosophers of language, among others by John E. Searle. He offers his own definition according to which intentionality is a property of many psychic states or events owing to which they are directed to or are about objects and conditions in the world. Searle constructs his theory of intentionality basing on the following philosophical categories: intentional content, psychological mode, background, system. (original abstract) - Accessibility
