- Pierwsza część artykułu została poświęcona wyjaśnieniu pojęcia konkurencji oraz krótkiemu przeglądowi teorii konkurencji. W drugiej częci zamieszczono charakterystykę polityki konkurencji Unii Europejskiej i podjęto próbę skonfrontowania jej ze współczesną teorią konkurencji.
Competition is perceived as an indispensable element and a driving force of an efficiently functioning market economy. That is why there exists a wide consensus among economists about the need to protect competition. The notion of competition was differently understood at the consecutive stages of development of the competition theory and until today it is differently defined. Therefore the competition policies of particular countries differ from each other. For better understanding of the specificity of the competition policy of the European Union it is indispensable to analyze the current developments of competition theory. It allows to try to determine which concept is the closest one to this policy. However, one should be aware that the specificity of the EU's competition policy is influenced by many factors, among others, a fact it constitutes a consensus achieved by all Memberstates and that it fulfils one, very vital function - together with other common policies of the EU it suppose to contribute to the deepening of the economic integration of the EU.
