Sub-Saharan Africa - Abstrakt
The ineffectiveness of development aid provided by developed countries remains a subject of academic and political discussion. Formulas for development tested in one geopolitical, economic and cultural environment tend to remain ineffective in others. Since public aid measures do not bring the expected results, new ways to foster development are becoming more and more common. The development of the private sector is one of them. The promotion of small rural producers in Sub-Saharan Africa is currently attracting a lot of attention. BDS (business development services) are a grass-roots tool that started to gain popularity shortly after microcredit began, and as a microcredit supporting measure. BDS intervention is aimed at the alleviation of poverty and more equal income distribution, but also at economic growth and development. The article examines the issue of cooperation between BDS actors as a factor for the effectiveness of BDS in rural sector markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. Vertical (facilitator - provider - entrepreneur) and horizontal (providers and entrepreneurs) relationships were analysed based on some project implementation evidence and pertinent literature. The aim was to identify the main characteristics of the cooperation as well as some incentives and constraints regarding its functionality in the context of BDS development agendas. A comparative analysis of Sub-Saharan project experiences has been conducted. Some implications for such key elements of cooperation as proper communication of tasks, quality control, provider networks, farmer organizations and service development have been drawn from the studied reports and publications.(original abstract) - Dostępne w
