- The considerations on the future development of the economic system in Poland, as presented in the article, differ from the conwentional ones in that, instead of looking for a target pattern, they refer to chances and conditions of acquiring dynamically understood abilities of the economy to adapt to systemic innovations. It is argued that any pattern tending to determine a specified function of government and to control the relations between the latter and the market mechanism is of limited usefulness and reliability. Under specific (space and time) conditions, there emerge complications and destructive relationships that require prophylactic or remedial measures. The conditions of successful transformation of the social practice toward a "citizen society" , which are reviewed in the article, depend upon parallel transformations in the nature of the state toward its "subsidiarity" and strengthening the functions of jurisdictional authorities in setting and keeping the economic order.
