Abstrakt
Jednym z podstawowych celów polityki społecznej Unii Europejskiej i krajów członkowskich jest walka z ubóstwem i wykluczeniem społecznym (Traktat z Maastricht). Działania mające na celu ograniczenie ubóstwa i wykluczenia społecznego stanowią, obok działań nakierowanych na wspieranie zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarczego i zatrudnienia, jeden z głównych obszarów zainteresowania i zarazem wsparcia Komisji Europejskiej oraz były jednym z głównych filarów strategii Lizbońskiej. Także w zrewidowanej wersji strategii Lizbońskiej obszar ten, związany z procesem integracji społecznej, pozostaje ważnym elementem działań strategicznych Unii Europejskiej. W 2010 r. Rada Europy ustaliła 5 głównych celów strategii Europa 2020. Jeden z nich dotyczył promocji integracji społecznej, w szczególności poprzez redukcję ubóstwa. Jednocześnie UE jako podstawowy cel swojej strategii w obszarze integracji społecznej postawiła sobie "wyjście" z ubóstwa 20 milionów osób w krajach członkowskich do 2020 r.(fragment tekstu)
