Abstrakt
This chapter addresses Ethical frameworks related to Internet Communication which will be conducted taking into consideration the new challenges of Internet era. The entire chapter evolves around the following rhetorical question: In the new Internet era is the axiology that for centuries has shaped our society at the collective and individual level alike still reliable! Advanced technology and the seemingly anonymous character of Internet actions make social actors hesitate between the real world and the virtual one, watering down and even eliminating the demarcation between ethical and unethical behaviour. Paradoxically, the difference between ethical and unethical behaviour is made in conceiving of accountability as law abiding. In other words, social actors, once opting in favour of ethical behaviour qua reliance on their own values, whereas accountability qua law abiding behaviour means that the individual, by virtue of in-group membership, is forced to display such behaviour, irrespective of his/her own norms and values. In this paradigm, the ethical framework becomes a barrier that has to be dealt with carefully so as not to affect the individual and the society as a whole. A special mention concerns the fact that, within Internet Communication, social actors are not accountable being protected by a fake identity easily provided by Internet Content Providers (ICPs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) (e-mail addresses, blogs, socializing networks accounts). To solve this ethical dilemma within the context of Internet Communication we need to be in step with respect to any epistemological approach. (fragment of text)
