- This article is focused on the question if it is possible to speak about loneliness only in the meaning of a purely negative form or as something positive too. In the psychological lierature on the subject we can find assumtions that lonelin ess is a negative experience, which often leads to a vriety of pathological manifestations. Is this psychological view correct? As a response to this question we offer a view on philosophy of voluntarism. In the philosophy of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche we find the opposite understanding of loneliness as defined by the psychological literature. Consequently, there is a relevant question if loneliness is the possibility of human growth. However, this too obvious distinction is problematic because in Nietzsch e's philosophy loneliness is connected with suffering and pain. However, in the end we find out that pain and suffering have different meanings and purpose when compared to views expressed in the psychological literature. (original abstract)
