The paper is the synthetic approach towards the analysis of the literature on the specificity of family firms. In the analysis the attention has been drawn to the competitive advantage of family firms with respect to the resource based theory while acknowledging that the resources resulting from the family character of these enterprises are of the kind determining competitive advantage. Relationships and family ties may be the subject to appropriate management for the purpose of generating specific competitive advantage exclusively typical of family firms. Particularly important is also the activity considering the dynamic environment and efficient management of the processes of strategic planning since without these activities it is impossible to achieve full competitive advantage from the possessed resources(original abstract)
