Abstrakt
Celem tekstu jest rekonstrukcja tych podejść do zdrowia, które wyprowadzić można z wybranych koncepcji socjologicznych - w konfrontacji z dominującym w tej sferze paradygmatem biomedycznym. Wyjdę przy tym od stwierdzenia, że we współczesnych naukach społecznych coraz częściej akceptuje się tezę, iż nie istnieje możliwość sformułowania jednej definicji ciała, zdrowia i choroby. Nie są to bowiem stany wyłącznie "obiektywne", które są "dane", lecz - w dużej mierze - społeczne konstrukcje. I tak, znaczenia i symbole, które ciało uosabia (lub raczej: ucieleśnia), zależą od kultury, miejsca i czasu. To samo dotyczy kategorii zdrowia i choroby. Mają one charakter relatywny oraz subiektywny i wpisują się w ogólne poczucie jakości życia człowieka. Przy tym to, co w jednych warunkach społeczno-kulturowych jawi się jako bezwzględnie zdrowe (stąd pożądane), w innych może stać się przyczyną lub oznaką choroby (i odwrotnie). To samo dotyczy poszczególnych jednostek. W rezultacie nie wydaje się możliwe stworzenie jednej, "ostatecznej" (i społecznie uniwersalnej) koncepcji promocji zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej. The aim of the article is to reconstruct sociological interpretations of health as well as confronting them with the prevailing biomedical model. In this context, the author presents health/illness and medicine assumptions implicated in functional structuralism, conflict theory, phenomenology, pragmatism and poststructuralism. He states that in spite of different perspectives, each of these approaches provides valuable insight into the relationship between health, individual and society. (original abstract)
