Bank Guarantee Fund - Abstrakt
- Przedmiotem artykułu jest Bankowy Fundusz Gwarancyjny. Autor omówił funkcje Funduszu oraz jego organy i źródła finansowania działalności. Szczególną uwagę poświęcił funkcji gwarancyjnej i promocyjnej BFG.
This article describes the Polish system of protecting bank deposits - the Bank Guarantee Fund. All banks which operate in Poland have had to take part in this system since 17.02.1995. The functioning of the Bank Guarantee Fund ensures that every client of banks will be paid back deposits according to the sum of money on his banking accounts. Thus, deposits which don't exceed 1000 ECU will be paid back in 100 procent and deposits between 1000-3000 ECU in 90 procent (since 1.07.1997 the maximum limit amounted to 4000 ECU, from 1.01.1998 it will amount to 5000 ECU). Stockholders who are in possession of minimum of 5 procent shares, bank managers and other financial institutions are all excluded from the above mentioned guarantees. In spite of functioning of the BFG, three banks (PKO BP, PeKaO SA, BGŻ SA) have a 100 procent Treasury guarantee by the end of 1999. The BFG except guaranteeing deposits, helps banks in financial trouble. It lends support to the banks, which have problems with their financial liquidity or which are going to take over weaker credit institutions. One should emphasise that the existence and functioning of the BFG is an important step in the process of harmonising the Polish banking law with the European Union standards.
